Lifeboat Inspection and services

Lifeboat Inspection

On any ship, one of the most important device is a lifeboat. If a worst-case scenario occurs, you want to be able to get off the ship safely and have a safe place to be until being rescued. But no matter how strong the lifeboat is built, regularly tests must be performed to ensure your absolute safety. At Marinspect we carry out lifeboat inspections all over the world.

A question of life and death

At Marinspect we live, eat and sleep safety. We know that for any sea-bound person, lifeboat safety is utterly important. The lifeboats must be trusted so that you know you can trust them if the worse happens. The best way to make sure your lifeboat is reliable is to test all vital mechanisms regularly. A properly inspected and maintained lifeboat is a question of life and death. No less.

How often should a lifeboat inspection be performed?

To be safe, lifeboat inspections should be done at least once a year. Apart from that, it is a good idea to keep a close look at the lifeboats on your own ship. With that being said, a lifeboat inspection is best performed by the professionals. Operational tests and loads are high-risk activities. At Marinspect we have invested and invented a lot of different methods and test equipment to minimize the risks. Our methods and equipment normally require less manpower than our competitors and we also perform them on shorter notice.

Whats included in an annual and a 5-year lifeboat inspection?

An annual examination is a thorough examination where both the outer and inner parts of the lifeboat and its equipment are checked. These include:

  • Engine system
  • Maneuvering system
  • Air supply system
  • Power and bailing system
  • All release gear
  • Davits
  • Hooks
  • Winches
  • Dynamic winch brake test

Of course, we also do 5-year lifeboat inspections at any port of your convenience. This is a comprehensive assessment of the lifeboat and davit systems. Our service technicians will visit your vessel and carry out a regulatory inspection according to OEM guidelines. In addition to the above mentioned, there is also the 5-year operational test, which is done by lowering the boat loaded to a proof load equal to 1.1 of the rescue boat including full equipment and persons, or equivalent load. The brake should be immediately applied when the boat has reached its maximum lowering and just before it enters the water.
